Celebration of Discipline
                      by Richard Foster

Hailed by many as the best modern book on Christian spirituality, Celebration of Discipline examines the "classic Disciplines," or central spiritual practices, of the Christian faith.  Along the way, Foster shows us that is only by and through these practices that the true path to spiritual growth can be found.

God's Politics
                      by Jim Wallis

Wallis finds the current conservative, liberal, and libertarian options out-of-step with the desires of most Americans untenable. Wallis offers a fourth option, “The Common Good,” that would represent those who are traditional on issues of moral character, personal responsibility, sexual integrity, and family values (without scape-goating any group like single parents or homosexuals), while being very progressive on issues like poverty and racial justice. This option affirms good stewardship of the earth and its resources, supports gender equality, and looks first to peacemaking and conflict-resolution when it comes to foreign policy questions. At the spiritual heart of this option is linking one’s personal ethics to social justice.

A prophetic book, it provides a scathing indictment of American society and the skewed values our government seems to endorse and implement. A hopeful book, it offers a platform for bringing the spiritual and political together, offering an alternative to the conservative, liberal, and libertarian options currently available to Americans.

Speaking my Mind
                      by Tony Campolo

Dubbed by Christianity Today as "the positive prophet" and "a ferocious critic of Christians left and right," Campolo lives up to his reputation in this latest book examining some of today's toughest questions and issues:
  • Is evangelical Christianity anti-feminist?
  • Is our affluent lifestyle at odds with our faith?
  • Is America really in moral decline?
  • Is capitalism a God-ordained system?
  • Is Islam really an evil religion?
  • Should Christian parents pull their kids out of public schools?
  • Was the war with Iraq a "just" war?
  • These questions, and more!

Speaking My Mind… is Tony Campolo at his best.

The Barbarian Way: Unleash the Untamed Faith Within
                          by Erwin McManus

Erwin McManus wasn't raised in a Christian home, so when he came to Christ as a college student, he didn't know the rules of the "religious club." He didn't do well in Shakespeare courses, so he didn't really understand the KJV Bible he was given either. But he did understand that prayer was a conversation, and he learned to talk to God and wait for answers. Erwin's way was passionate and rough around the edges-a sincere, barbaric journey to Christ.

Barbaric Christians see Jesus differently than civilized Christians. They see disciples differently, and they see Christ's mission differently. The Barbarian Way is a call to escape "civilized" Christianity and become original, powerful, untamed Christians-just as Christ intended.

So I Go Now: Following After the Jesus of Our Day

So I Go Now
                            by Jeff Jacobson

"I see him riding in on a Harley, the Jesus of my day. His hair is long and wild from the wind and it looks like he's been on the road for awhile. But his eyes are still bright, and he smiles when he sees me. I guess he travels light because his saddlebags are mostly empty..."

Take a ride with a man who is forced to discover what a modern day Jesus would do; where he would go and what he would wear. Would he have tattoos, and if so, how many? What type of people would he hang with, and what might cause a scandal if he were doing it right here and now?

Experience a journey on the back of a Harley - a ride where faith and fiction collide with the non-fiction that sustains it; where imagination becomes wonder, and wonder itself leads to action.

Invitation to a Journey: A Road Map for Spiritual Formation

Jesus in the Margins
                              by Rick McKinley

Good News Unpacked Jesus is our ultimate model for finding identity, acceptance, and legitimacy from the Father. As we pull back the curtain on His life, we discover that Jesus knows what it's like to be marginalized. He understands how it feels to have society shove you to the side, to not really be accepted, and in the end to be totally rejected. He can identify with life in the margins because when God came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, He landed in the margins. On purpose. And He chose to land there because it's in the margins that broken lives get mended, prisoners are set free, and the poor hear the Good News.
